Julieta Gonzalez Garcia
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Born in Sinaloa, Mexico, Julieta always knew she wanted to serve her community. She is a passionate educator and community leader who is dedicated to empowering immigrant lives.
Julieta migrated to Los Angeles, California in 1968. Early in her career, she managed an international travel agency which eventually led her to become a director in post-secondary education. In 1981, she opened a vocational school that provided injured workers with career focused training.
After retirement and through her volunteer and social justice work, Julieta noticed that many Latino immigrants in the San Fernando Valley did not have the necessary skills to read and write. This encouraged her to teach, and after a year of working with a small group of adult learners, she gained the support of the Consulate of Mexico and INEA (National Institute of Education for Adults) and other community partners. Julieta funded the community plaza in 2015 with the mission to provide equal access to basic education and to fill the educational gap among immigrants.
That same year, Julieta was nominated as Woman and Businesswoman of the year. She is reported to be the first Hispanic/Latina woman to be approved for a business loan by the Small Business Administration. Julieta is also a certified counselor in mental health, family therapy, domestic violence advocacy, and chemical dependency.
